Monday, March 28th, we were fortunate to have Sarah Berndt, PhD, Geneva University and Dr Jasmine Abdulcadir, HUG-Geneva, discussing the value of PRP and PRP+HA as autologous treatments for vulvo-vaginal atrophy.

Sarah Berndt described the consequence of the menopause on vaginal tissues (dryness, loss of elasticity, decrease in vaginal epithelium).

She presented in vitro evidence of PRP’s regenerative impact on mucosal vaginal cells. The in vitro (cell cultures) and ex-vivo (explant cultures) studies also evaluated the biological effects of PRP when combined with HA as an autologous treatment for vulvo-vaginal atrophy.

Dr Jasmine Abdulcadir spoke about several studies in the treatment and repair of various tissues before presenting 4 cases with clinical observations, and imaging (labiaplasty, episiotomy failure & clitoral reconstruction) before and after treatment.

She concluded with the benefits she observed in patients
treated with protocols including PRP injections:
• Faster re-epithelialization
• Less Pain/Decreased need of pain management
• Faster return to work, sexual activity, sport
• During post-partum, less abandonment of breastfeeding
• Post FGM/C reconstruction, less trauma

The session is already accessible on replay on the Biobridge site, click here.

All 10 sessions from this winter series are now available on replay, on the Biobridge website. Content includes medical and surgical procedures.

We hope you have enjoyed this programme and that it will encourage you to integrate the use of PRP into your practice.
